Global Quality Management Systems Standards Require Reliability, Impartiality and Confidentiality for Testing Laboratories

Nicholasville, KY January 17, 2023 — KCA Labs, a leading analytical testing laboratory with clients in 47 states and 26 countries, announced today that it has expanded its scope of ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation in chemistry and microbiology testing. This accreditation is awarded to testing and calibration laboratories worldwide that have demonstrated that they meet a strict multi-faceted range of operating requirements and standards. Those facilities with ISO 17025 accreditation are also subject to regular third-party auditing to ensure continued adherence to standards.

See KCA’s new PJLA scope of accreditation in the certificate found here: https://www.pjview.com/clients/pjl/viewcert.cfm?certnumber=22655

The following principles are the main forces behind all the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:

  • Resources – the lab has the resources – staff with the required training, skills, and knowledge; a working environment with the required facilities, instruments, and equipment, quality control procedures, and testing procedures to undertake the work and to produce reliable and reproducible results
  • Exercise of Responsibility – the organization can demonstrate accountability for its test results
  • Scientific Method – the work conducted by the organization is based on accepted scientific methods
  • Objectivity of Results – the results produced within the scope of the work of the organization are based on measurable or derived quantities
  • Impartiality of Conduct – accepted scientific approaches are the primary and overriding influences on the work of persons performing laboratory analyses
  • Traceability of Measurement – results produced by the laboratory are based on a recognized system of measurements that derive from accepted, known quantities (SI system); a sequence of comparisons of measurements of known quantities (e.g., reference standard materials), and the instrument or device providing the objective result is both optimized and calibrated for the testing it performs , including an estimate of the uncertainty of the measurement
  • Repeatability of Test – the test which produced the objective results will produce the same results,
within accepted deviations (i.e., measurement uncertainty), during subsequent testing
  • Transparency of Process – the processes used by the laboratory to produce the objective results are open to internal and external scrutiny Christopher Ware, CEO of KCA Labs, said, “Our lab has become a recognized leader among testing facilities in the US and internationally. We are proud to find recognition for the quality of our people, science, and processes through this accreditation and its recognized standard of excellence. As we expand the scope of our work beyond our historic base in the hemp industry to include a variety of foods and products, we will continue to do the quality of work our global customers have come to expect.”
